Nolu Sapua (4 months)
Hi Jacqui,
I've been meaning to send you this email for a while now and I finally got to type it up.
Our little girl, Nolu, had been a great night sleeper - from 2 weeks of her life, she only woke up twice at night, but then became a cat napper during the day, with her day naps only lasting 20 mins. I tried techniques I had used on our first one, five years ago, but at no avail. I thought Nolu's reflux was causing her discomfort during the during the day, and I felt ungrateful for complaining since I was managing to get some sleep at night (more than most parents with babies that young). But the night time sleep started also getting affected when she turned 3 months, Nolu woke up more frequently and just wanted to breastfeed to get back to sleep.
I started really worrying as my maternity leave was coming to an end at the end of June 2014. I signed us up and attended the semi-private session on Tues, 23 June 2014. The very next day, we started with the feeding routine. We started the sleep training on Friday, 27 June in the evening. It was hard, I wanted to abandon the training, but my husband kept reminding me why we were doing it. We preserved the weekend bad by Monday, 29 June, Nolu was sleeping at least 45 mins at a time for her day naps, and a week later, she was sleeping 1 and a half hours for 3 of her 4 naps. By the end of two weeks, she was sleeping throughout all her naps. Her night sleep also improved drastically, she was only waking up once. And a month after the training, she was sleeping through the night, from 19:30 until 6:00 and we have not looked back.
I truly believe sleep training worked because:
1. It was easy to follow the programme
2. Both my husband and I were willing to do the hard work and be consistent 3. Your support after the session, we could pick up the phone and clarify any concerns
Not only has Nolu's sleep turned around completely, but she is happier and so is the whole family. We enjoy Nolu more now that her sleeping has improved. Her brother adores her and enjoys playing with her during her awake times. He is even taking his day naps consistently as he feels "he has to show his sister how to nap". Her grandparents can't believe how easy it is to put her down for her day naps and that she has become more of a pleasure when she is awake. We've been able to have our parents babysit her as her routine is well-established.
Her nanny is now more confident as she can plan her day as Nolu's routine is easy to follow and they can enjoy each other's presence during her awake time as Nolu is well-rested from her day naps.
Thank you for showing us how to teach our daughter an important life skill and for helping us put some structure into our lives. The benefits have been far more than we expected. We have recommended your programme to our friends and colleagues who are battling to get their little ones to sleep, for we feel no family has to go through the pains we went through when such a programme exists.
Thank you once more and keep doing the great work.
Kind regards,
Mmule
